My internship at the ANCA is wrapping up. It has been awesome working here, advancing Armenian issues. In my time in this office, I have had the opportunity to work with wonderful people, and got to meet with important members of the community, as well as quite a few influential politicians. It has been more than fun. As i said in my previous post, the blog is back! There will be some LA Kings analysis like the old days, as well as some more musical talk... SloMoDale Records, a project I am working to get started with a couple of friends is also in the works, as I expand my horizons into the Musical World. Its going to be a wild ride in the process... My work on the LSAT is probably gonna kill me a little, yet at the same time, I look forward to the Challenge. It's going to be a wild ride starting this fall, so hopefully i dont get sea-sick in the process... STAY TUNED!

ok peeps, i havent posted on this thing in ages, but now is the time for some good shit... I went to CSULA and left to pursue better educational opportunities... currently i am a student of the University of California at Santa Barbara, for those who can not abbreviate, thats UCSB. i can tell you that the lord works in mysterious ways. I've been here a total of 10 days and i love it so far...

Most of my readers know that I am very much involved with Armenian life and how i find Armenian life funny, but here that experience is hard to come by... my two best friends from high school are here with me, as well as my neighbor from across the street... couple that with some new Armenians that ive met, it adds up to roughly 8 people... so far its been a very interesting process and i will keep you posted of all the happenings that i find relevant or irrelevant...

wow i cant believe its been a year. so far ive contributed very few relevant points to what i call this blog... what i have done is break down the high and low points of the kings throughout this year. i am currently working on a draft analysis for the 2009 kings draft. i kinda stopped talking on this as a primary forum, because of the advent of facebook... i was working on a show called " SLO MO SHOW " which is a ripoff of the Ibo Show... basically i have a pretty decent web cam now, and im coming up with new material.

as for a book? i have written 5 chapters in a book called "legends of little armenia" thats about 70 pages of material. yes i am that bored.

hello again dear friends... i write to you on a more somber note today... a good friend of mine was murdered on the evening of April 12, 2009. Hayk Oganyan, our good friend was at a frat party with his friends when in just an eye blink, a joyous occasion was marred by tragedy. Hayk was stabbed by three unknown men who are at large today, and according to sources were "in white t-shirts and black shorts, with shaved heads." according to people close to me and hayk, they were most likely gang members.

i would like to take a moment and talk about Hayk... He was the owner of many nicknames, such as "crackhead," "five-head," and later on, "white boy." many described him as "chill" and "light hearted." I certainly have my memories with hayk as well going to school in little armenia... we grew up as one of the few rockers at our tiny armenian school, and we grew up having a great deal of respect for one another. though Hayk would move on from pilibos and go to LA Marshall High School, he would always roll by school and say hi. often we would run into him at coffee bean on hillhurst and share a few thoughts and jokes, and talk about life, school and work. Hayk was the guy who i remember especially because he represented a snippet of Little Armenia... for some reason, everywhere i went to in hollywood i would find myself running into him... i remember when he worked at robeks juice and he would hook us up with free drinks... i remember those saturdays when he would come and chill at pilibos while we played hockey. often i ran into him by his house on prospect and commonwealth, which is a street down from where i spent my childhood. We knew many of the same people, and shared many of the same experiences. He was a cross section of the Armenian experience in California.

this leads to a bigger picture though. in my generations experience within Los Angeles, we are familiar with gang activity, simply put, because of guilt by association. we are familiar with the gang culture and its repercussions because we are so used to seeing the graffiti on the wall, the bald headed bastards, the throwing of various gang signs, and the neglect of respect for one another. even worse is that not only did we lose a loved one and a friend, my people and my culture lost a true gem. We lost a man who was young and energetic and a breath of fresh air to those who knew him. I found myself saying this to another loved one, that every time an Armenian dies senselessly, it is the equivalent to a world trade center tragedy for our people, who are so few, and so starved of people like Hayk. and if we think about the proportions of how much an Armenian is worth to his or her own peoples population, simply put, it is staggering. the ratio of one Armenian to its population is approximately the equivalent of 1,500-2,000 Chinese to the Republic of China...

the big picture today is that we lost a good friend and an even better person on April 12th. To his family and friends I wish patience for the coming days, months and years... to him, i wish him a safe journey above. the impact he made on all of us is felt today with unmatched sorrow, grief and pain. may god bless his soul and may god bless those around him who are feeling his loss today...

in my philosophy 151 class and im studying the grandmaster of philosophy today, Rene' Descartes... its always possible that i could be wrong he said. he was a scientist who sought the absolute truth.... he states that knowledge is the path to truth, but cannot determine what is true. hes been wrong before, how does he know that he isnt wrong now? simple... prove that shit logically bitches! this is the absolute truth because there is no other condition where shit doesnt exist... but its not gonna be a good method maybe cuz there isnt any proof.... so i tried to prove it but you cant be proven... well if you conclude there is no proof then you could be wrong. so there is no bottom line truth in the real world... so he changes his methods. so he uses this new thing called the method of doubt. instead of showing something is true, if i can show that its remotely possible that a belief is remotely false, meaning it can be doubted, then i know that its not certain and i will treated as if it were false... FUCK YA! because "certain" means it is undoubted,and doubt-able is uncertain. JOGIR JORGE? knock the shit down and build it on solid ground. build it on unbreakable stone... but if you could break it then its not solid... like super slinky strings... you break it then its not solid... but if hendrix can play on it then its unbreakable... ok not quite... but you get the jist right?

OK. i know the world would be a quieter place if i died. but i continue to live only to create productive noise. lets make this a special post.

i started this blog as a brainchild of art Americanism. he came up with an analysis point at my draft party and called my spot on the air, THE MANGHAL MINUTE... i was standing by the barbecue. as i flipped the cooked burger over, it dawned on me. i should start a blog about hockey and the things i love. since then, the blog has turned into a medium of exchange between myself and the world that reads this shit. along the way it became an exposition of Armenian and Middle Eastern topics and flavors. every now and then i throw in a random post like this, and it comes together as a explosion of my brain.

as i continue this useless blog... i have been toying with some ideas. some of which have never gone into fruition... like the style portion. but as i continue, i thought of an idea called "slo mo SHOW" it would be a cross between armenian teletime, and the IBO SHOW, a popular turkish variety show staring none other than Ibrahim Tatlises. the topics can vary from sports to style to cigars to anything my brain farts. all in all its still in the developmental stages.

also, i am in the process of buying a laptop, to take the blog mobile. that way i can post as i go... that way the show gets more random... that could be a bad thing.

...The last two and a half years have been trying and rewarding times for me. This morning at 10:15, i finished my final class at GCC. the funny thing about it is, i was just as emotional about leaving that place than leaving high school. it was at gcc where i truly became a man, and held myself accountable for getting ahead. it seems like yesterday that i walked into my first political science class. along the way i encountered many new people, and made some good friends. the eventual demise of my classmate count helped me realize that after a point you succeed. though i reached my final destination with the school, it was the journey that counted... now we embark on the next leg of the SloMoJoe tour, as we make a stop at cal state LA

so about a week ago I turned 21 years old.
as they say its all downhill after this.
its important to reflect on what has emerged across the board for SloMoJoe in the last year. some of the best times of my life and some of the worst times of my life happened at age 20. now we move on to 21. I kicked it off with a trip to Super Bowl XLIII in Tampa, FL. i realized Tampa had more Arabs than rednecks. as i returned to Los Angeles i had a new yearning to reinvigorate my blog. so far it hasn't happened yet. this show has garnered great admiration amongst all walks of armenians for its straight forwardness, and its satire on the armenian image created by the local mob, the nosy neighbors and the "toun Kandogh" liana that every family has grown to despise.

it all started when i gave my friend Hakop a Russian CD to look up. knowing Hakop and his superior knowledge of all things Russian, he found the singer of the unknown song which i had found by accident. as it turns out, Hakop found the singer of the Russian songs, and it was a band called Lube. Lube is one of the earliest Russian pop bands. They are from the Lubyertsiy suburb of Moscow, Russia, and that is the namesake of the band, because it is also known as "Lube" They emerged after the Reformation of the Russian Federation. Thus, today their success over the last decade has made them among the most popular bands of Eastern Europe. They have an incredibly simple style of singing and playing music, as well as a mastery of traditional Russian songs. Many songs are about the popular Russian themes, such as joining the Army and going off to war, and drinking. Okay, there is more to it than that. but just hear for yourself.

Yes, it has been a while since i posted.

now that we got that out of the way, its important to take a look at this point at the statistical and actual balance of the kings at this point of the season. its also important to note that last year at this point, the kings had the same 7-8-2 record as this year.

IMPORTANT CHANGES: where do we start? the kings fired Marc Crawford over the summer and brought in a coach who would impregnate the kings with a new playing style... impregnate? i could think of a lot better words than that...

Coach Terry Murray, who was a specialist in implementing fundamentals in his players in Philly and Washington, was brought in. Whats happened? the kings are now allowing the fewest shots against in the NHL and have one of the lowest team goals against average. goalie Erik Ersberg, a relative newcomer in the sense of games started in the NHL has not skipped a beat, and has kept his team in the games.

Old Flavor: As usual, Alexander Frolov has been the teams hidden stud as far as creating offense is concerned. Dustin Brown leads the kings in the hits column, and the top line, though hasn't produced as well as it should have throughout the season, is still on par with production with most of the NHL's top lines, who have all somewhat struggled this year.

New Flavor: man, where do you want to start? rookies Oscar Moller and Drew Doughty are all getting praised for their veteran play, with only a few games of experience. as the season wears down, their good starts will only improve a team that is the youngest in the NHL. Wayne Simmonds and Brian Boyle, the other two rookies on the team have also shown flashes of potential with their rugged play. add that with established youngsters, Anze Kopitar, Dustin Brown, Patrick O'Sullivan, and Alexander Frolov, and you have an up-and-coming group of stars rivaled by no one in the entire NHL.

The re-vamped defense of the kings features Drew Doughty, mentioned earlier, rugged veterans Matt Greene and Sean O'Donnell, as well as smooth skaters Peter Harrold, and Tom Preissing.

The hidden gem of this group of defenseman is Kyle Quincey. picked up on waivers by the kings after the Jack Johnson injury, he has been a true blessing on the blueline, leading the kings blueliners in points, and is on pace for 40+ points thus far. expect him to be among the leaders in points for defensemen for the kings. With Jack Johnson's return after the all star break, the kings will feature a defense that has a good mix of size, speed, skill, and grit.

Goaltending: the silver lining of the kings struggles has been goaltending throughout the last 15 years. Jason LaBarbera came into camp as the undisputed No. 1. He started the season off well, but as he has shown in the past, he can be a very streaky goalie. when the kings lost four straight, the hat was passed to Erik Ersberg, a goalie who was largely untested, but very successful in his very few starts. Ersberg took the ball and ran with it, posting a 4-2 record the last six games, and showing the coach he made the right choice picking him. As for the farm system, the kings have three solid GEMS! Jonathan Quick, the goalie at Manchester has shown the brilliance that kept him in training camp until the final cut. Jonathan Bernier, the kings future franchise goalie, has gotten off to a slow start, which is normal for him, has definitely looked shaky in his early starts. Jeff Zatkoff, Miami of Ohio product, has been brilliant at Ontario, losing only one game.

OK, so you can't have your cake and eat it too! i never got that stupid saying, I'm Armenian, I can have my cake and eat it!

I guess tonight was not the night though...

my boys played the hated ducks for the second time this season in what appeared to be a sellout crowd. The kings had no trick up their sleeves, as they played an inspired, hard working game against a very hot Anaheim team who had won their last six. It took an overtime to decide the winner as Chris Pronger drilled a 40 footer 43 seconds in... the kings played an excellent game however, and looked better today than the previous games. Erik Ersberg got his first start of the year, and played an excellent game. This is a bit of good news heading into the next game as the kings now have another viable No. 1 goalie.

In other news, today was the beginning of the end of the worst eight years of my life, most of which was attributed to the bush dynasty. I supported Barack Obama and knew about him for a while, being a political science major. Most of my closest friends can attest to my passion for politics. Somehow, a calmness is restored in my life, at least for now, knowing the next four years can not be as worse as the last eight. I think regardless of who won, it is a great day in America when a minority like myself can run for office and win. that has major implications even for me and my children. Now my kids can say, dad i can run for president and win...

As for McCain, he is and always will be my favorite republican. I think if he showed his true self as the "unite-er" that the senate has known for at least the last eight years, he would have really given Obama a run for his money. All in all, today is a proud day in American history. To be fair, I must say that Obama's task is not an easy one, and many battles lie ahead. But lets be fair and agree that it can not be as bad as the last eight.

for me, it is a dream come true in a small way, when i was 16 i heard him speak to the Democratic National Convention, and i remember thinking, "this guy is the next great president." I turned down a job for the Clinton and McCain to work on his campaign, until i got hired at The Home Depot. I know that today is a day that i will remember, maybe not so much for the kings loss to the ducks in overtime, but for what it will hold for my generation, and the future generations that are coming around the corner.

i can proudly say that today, i feel proud to be American, to have a full-proof passport, to go anywhere in the world and be envied. this man is the kind of guy you would fight in a war for, because you know that his struggle parallels your struggle as a minority in a country that is known as the melting pot.

its been a while since i last published, but with work and school, its becoming increasingly difficult to cover the kings...

i missed a total of four games, all losses, but im gonna try giving a quick recap of each...

LA vs. St. Louis- Thank you Sara Palin! The dumb broad drops the puck at the game, Manny Legace has a hip flexor injury afterward... the kings opened up the floodgates for this one, with goals from Brown, Sully, Stoll, and Quincey. The five forward power play was stifled by the kings, then perfect penalty kill.

LA vs. Nashville- Another hard fought game by Los Angeles, who was down 3-0 at the end of the first period. they made the game 3-2 when Nashville scored two goals putting victory seemingly out of reach. Sure enough, the kings score two goals and made it 5-4. a hard fought game for a young kings team, who goes up against Barry Trotz's preds.

Detroit vs. LA- A great game played by both teams. in the end a costly turnover made it difficult for the kings to win. Denis Gauthier, a respected defenseman in my book, made a costly turnover right in front of the goal, when he was being pressured by a stifling Wings forecheck. At that point the kings had done a good job of playing with the lead, but it just goes to show what can happen when a team like Detroit turns the jets on.

VANCOVER vs. LA- one of the most difficult games i've ever seen. call it bad ice, or a lack of total offense, the kings got emberassed by all means. the vanouver canucks routed the kings 4-0, enough said.

Calgary vs. LA- good all around game, but at this point the kings are not being able to produce enough offense to support the goaltending and the defense. the kings are now showing what it takes to win in all aspects of the game. a horrendous kings power play doesn't help. it is obvious that Lubomir Visnovsky is being missed, as is JMFJ.

Doughty, Moller Score first Career Goals in Kings Loss...

Kings newcomers Oscar Moller and Drew Doughty score their first career NHL goals in their fifth NHL game. Sadly, their stellar effort didn't help the kings against the avalanche in a 4-3 loss at staples center. Moller opened the scoring with a power play goal, and embarrassed Peter Budaj by sneaking the puck through on the short side, between his right pad and the post. but two goals by Ryan Smith, one goal by Milan Hejduk, and David Jones, made the game an almost insurmountable comeback effort. Patrick O'Sullivan also scored for the kings, who battled throughout the game in spite of being down in the game. The guys played a good first and third period, but took the rest of the game off. Jason LaBarbera was pulled after allowing 4 goals on 14 shots. He was replaced by Erik Ersberg, who faced only two shots.

i know its three days after the fact, but if you spend twenty hours in three days at the home depot, you try posting something... Anyways... Fridays Game was a weird one to say the least... The Kings opened the scoring with MY BOY ZEUS Michal Handzus...
the first period ended with a 1-0 kings lead. The second period and the crappy ice conditions made it difficult for the kings, as Carolina scored with random bad bounces and made it 3-1. a goal from Captain Brown sent the Kings to the locker room down 3-2, at the second intermission. The Kings, who have notoriously battled back throughout the course of the young season, scored, and with a goal from Kopitar, they tied the game and sent it to OT. and in overtime, MY MAN ZEUS, scored to give the kings the win. the man who started the scoring, finished it.

The Kings, a team struggling with offense in the first two games, pop in six goals against a very undisciplined Anaheim team, for a 6-3 win. the kings went down early in the game, only to have an offensive explosion in the second period, sending the ducks to the locker room with a 4-2 lead. Wayne Simmonds scored his first NHL goal, and Frolov, Preissing, Stoll, O'Sullivan, and Moulson also figured into the scoring. Alexei Cherapanov, one of a few elite prospects russia has produced in the last five years, died sunday on the bench of the Avangard Omsk, A Russian KHL team. Cherapanov was sitting between Jaromir Jagr, and former king Pavel Rosa, when he fell backwards and never awoke. The cause of death was described as a Heart Attack. Local media reported that the Arena Ambulance had left and gone home when the incident happened. several attempts were made to revive him, but to no avail. Cherapanov, a stud winger, was taken by the rangers in the 17th overall spot in 2007, and was considered as arguably the top player behind Patrick Kane. But due to a lack of a transfer agreement between the RSL and NHL, he fell to the 17th pick where the rangers stole him. he 6-1, 187-pounder appeared in 106 career Russian Super League (RSL)/KHL matches with Avangard Omsk, collecting 40 goals and 29 assists for 69 points, along with 61 penalty minutes. Last season, Cherepanov established a career-high in assists (13) while finishing fourth on the club in points (28). In 2006-07, he set the RSL record for most goals by a rookie (18), eclipsing Pavel Bure’s mark (17) set in 1988-89 with the Red Army (CSKA Moscow).

With 29 points in his first season with Omsk, Cherepanov recorded more points than Pittsburgh’s Evgeni Malkin, Washington’s Alexander Ovechkin and Atlanta’s Ilya Kovalchuk each tallied in their first RSL season.

Johnson Out 2-3 months with injury

Jack My Friend Johnson, expected to be the top defenseman for my beloved kings this season is out with what was described as an upper extremity injury. Later on, the injury was identified as a torn labrum in the shoulder. they expect him to miss at least two months, but up to three months, based on his recovery. in 81 career games with the kings, Johnson scored 11 points, with three goals and eleven assists. Jack was taken third overall in 2005, two picks after NHL megastar Sidney Crosby. On another note, kings claimed defenseman Kyle Quincy on waivers from Detroit. Quincy has recorded 13 NHL games, and has one NHL goal under his belt. He was tenacious in his playoff debut for Detroit last year, and showed he can definitely handle the rigors of the NHL. Quincy is described as a physical Defenseman, with above average skating, and a great shot from the point, and can even fill in time on the second power play unit.

As for JMFJ's spot, Peter Harrold will fill in next to Matt Greene for the time being.

KINGS GET BLOWN OUT BY SAN JOSE...

this weekend, the kings played home and home, against the San Jose Sharks. The first game in SJ was witnessed by MM. in the first game, the kings lost 3-1 and allowed 43 shots on goal while only generating 13. the NHL record for fewest shots is 12, set by the Florida Panthers. Several Kings players looked shaky, such as Anze Kopitar, who was just signed to a seven year deal with the club. amongst the starters were rookies Wayne Simmonds, Oscar Moller, and Drew Doughty. each one of these guys had solid games, and their confidence only grew with each additional minute they played. Both teams showed dazzle from their young stars, but a lack of offense on the part of the kings was to blame for the loss. solid defense and a flawless penalty kill effort showed great hope for future success. team captain Dustin Brown also showed what he can do to get his team riled up, when he ditsy doodled his way around the San Jose defense to kill the penalty.

Michal Handzus and Alexander Frolov connected for the kings only goal on the power play. these two showed amazing chemistry, and it seems as though Handzus has earned his spot as the second line center between Frolov. on the right wing, wayne Simmonds, Oscar Moller, and Matt Moulson were cycled.

among the more impressive kings players were Matt Greene, Drew Doughty, and Denis Gauthier, and Tom Preissing. these guys, save for Preissing, were brought in as fill ins for the kings defense. Gauthier showed that he can skate, and actually came up with some good defensive play

the kings that didn't shine were Jack Johnson and Jarret Stoll. Johnson was responsible for two of the three San Jose goals by being caught flat footed in the defensive zone. Stoll, who was brought in via trade from Edmonton lost six of seven draws, one of his specialties. in my opinion, he is not a very good skater and needs much more improvement.

I have to say that Jason LaBarbera had a good game, and deserves to be LA's no. 1 goalie.

Tonight's game featured the same two teams and the kings brought LaBarbera back in net. The kings managed to out-shoot the sharks this time, but still fell 1-0. two kings goals were disallowed, due to crease violations, and a kicked in puck. Doughty led the team in ice-time, and Jack Johnson left the game with what was described as an "upper extremity injury."

When coach Terry Murray was asked about his team's performance tonight, he said,

"...The 1-0 game was... I really liked the way we played, especially in the second half of the game. The third period was tremendous. We started to see something that I haven't seen yet, and that was that compete for each other, playing hard for your teammates. There was a lot of blocking shots and playing real hard and heavy on pucks on the boards and in front of the net area. It was great to see that. That's kind of a bar that's set, and I'm going to try very hard to keep them to that level. It's something to build on.''

Patrick O'Sullivan also made his season debut tonight after being scratched the night before. Coach Murray was also high on Patty-O's skills, and called him a "special player."

Patrick O' Sullivan, the young stud of the LA kings in the First line Left Wing slot all of last season, was re-signed to a three year deal. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but he will be making an average of 2.925 million dollars a year throughout the length of the term. This was the first of many key signings coming up for the kings, with Anze Kopitar, Jack Johnson, and Alexander Frolov coming up next season. With these guys signed, most of the kings core players will remain signed long term. as many kings fans know, the situation was on the edge of ugly, up until yesterday. The kings spent the whole summer in limbo with Sully's agents, and he also was asked not to attend training camp at the request of GM Dean Lombardi. When asked by Rich Hammond about the importance of getting the deal done, DL responded by saying,

"I think it's a relief because it makes your team better. That's always a help. Sully was the most urgent, in terms of where his status was, and obviously his age fits with this group. Stoll, his age fit with the group. We're going to continue pounding away on the other guys and staying with the plan, trying to keep these guys together. So it's not only looking at what it does for the team now, but fitting it into the whole. I'm as relieved about that as I am about getting him in. If you don't get him in right, then what good is it?"

in his career with the kings, Sully has logged 126 games with 27 goals and 45 assists for 77 career points. he was acquired along with the 17th pick (Trevor Lewis) from the Minnesota Wild, in exchange for Slovakian sniper Pavol Demitra. below is a sample of the many goals this guy has scored throughout his career in LA, Manchester, Houston, Team USA, and Mississauga.

Yes, a sheepishly gloating Los Angeles Kings post for today. the kings opened up their preseason action today with two games in one day. The first game featured the kings playing the St. Louis Blues in Kansas City, at the all new Sprint Center. The Goals were scored by rookie newcomer Davis Drewiskie, who the Kings signed in the offseason, and defenseman Tom Preissing, who the kings will expect to step up his game, on an already thin Los Angeles Kings blueline. The game also featured rookie defensemen Drew Doughty, Colten Teubert, and Alec Martinez. The three blue chippers contributed to the game, while Doughty, the most serious contender for a roster spot, got the most praise from the kings commentators. Teubert and Martinez looked better as the game progressed. the most praise went to Wayne Simmonds, Sault St. Mary Greyhounds star and kings '07 second rounder. Final Score 2-1 LA

The second game, which M.M. was present at, witnessed an offensive explosion on behalf of the second kings team, led by kings '07 second rounder Oscar Moller. On this team were current kings Anze Kopitar, Dustin Brown, Jack Johnson, and Jason LaBarbera. The first three played great games, but LaBarbera allowed 4 goals, two of which were scored in two minutes, as well as three soft ones. OUCH. He did look noticably thinner than last season, as well as quicker. The Hero of the night was Oscar Moller, who looked amazing out there with David Meckler, and Brian Boyle. all three players figured in the scoring. Vyacheslav Voynov, and Thomas Hickey were also out there for the Kings, and both players looked rather shaky in their first preseason games with the kings... final score, 6-4 LA

Richard Wright, legendary keyboard player, passed away today from an undisclosed cancer. He was 65 years old. He is best remembered for his famous keyboard licks on the songs "Money" and "Time." He was a self taught piano player who grew up to define one of the greatest rock bands in history. Many may even argue, that had the Pink Floyd sound not existed, many electronically based music forms, such as techno and trance would fail to exist as well. He was one of the low key members of the band, and one of the most influential. Pink Floyd is also one of my biggest influences, as well as one of my favorite, if not my most favorite band. May he rest in peace.

How about that Sara Palin... What an alaskan babe... So ya, I'm in her hometown now, where there are many airplanes that fly off of the water, as well as lots of eagles and bears. This town has a lot of little shops and cafe's as well as lots of touristic attractions like glaciers and mountain trails... I like the locally brewed beer... It is typical of an alaskan town, with its old and beaten up structures, reminescent of the movie mystery, alaska... Good hockey movie. Alaska's beauty makes for interesting posts on MM. I also saw an armenian couple in town, arguing about where to go... As for my ship, it is captained by a greek man, and there are 14 turks on board, one of which my mom insulted...

NORDIC METAL BAND KALMAH releases their new CD, titled "for the revolution." its an interesting awesome feel to it with an atmospheric metal sound, but stays true to all their albums. take for example the song titled, "the holy symphony of WAR"... pretty fuckin awesome. if you enjoy the "armenian guitar a la Harout pamboukjian" solo's... these guys are for you. they are a great band if you don't mind screaming too much. I give it Five STARS

SYSTEM OF A DOWN FANS will love the new Scars on Broadway CD, which combines that classic SOAD sound with a fresh mix of heavilly guitar oriented music. The band is comprised of good ole Daron Malakian, who has gained more weight than me in the last year... John Dolmayan, drum maven, returns to back up his old guitarist... most likely out of pity. the great thing about this album is that it feels like it never stops

TERRY MURRAY... he was a defensman in the NHL for many years and an assistant coach with the flyers... he now has a coaching position with my beloved el monarcho's and brings a lot to the table. according to Daily News beat writer Rich Hammond, Murray brings experience and a mentoring ability for the young defenseman on the team... he is much more patient with the youngsters unlike crawfish... his predecessor. He is also the younger brother of Ottawa GM Brian Murray. if anybody, such as myself remember the Philadelphia Flyers playoff run, he was very much a key part of that. he helped turn a last place team into a conference champion finalist. good hire.

LOS ANGELES (AP)—The Los Angeles Kings went with experience in choosing a head coach.

Terry Murray, who guided Philadelphia to the Stanley Cup finals 11 years ago and has coached 737 regular-season NHL games, was hired late Wednesday to succeed Marc Crawford.

A team spokesman said Murray will be introduced Thursday at an afternoon news conference at the Kings’ training facility in suburban El Segundo.

Murray, who turns 58 on Sunday, has been an assistant with the Flyers since 2003-04. He hadn’t been a head coach in the NHL since being fired by the Florida Panthers following the 2000-01 season. He has a 360-288-89 regular-season record and a 46-43 post season mark as a head coach with Philadelphia, Washington and Florida.

Murray spent parts of eight seasons in the NHL and WHL as a defenseman before starting his coaching career as an assistant with Washington in 1983. After 1 1/2 seasons as a head coach in the American Hockey League, he was promoted to head coach of the Capitals during the 1989-90 season. They reached the Eastern Conference finals before being eliminated from the playoffs.

The Capitals made the playoffs each of the next two seasons, but didn’t advance past the second round, and Murray was fired 47 games into the 1993-94 season.

Philadelphia hired Murray at the start of the following season, and they reached the conference finals, the conference semifinals, and the Stanley Cup finals in his three seasons. But after the Flyers were swept by Detroit in the Stanley Cup finals, Murray was fired.

Florida then hired Murray as general manager, and in his second season, Doug MacLean was fired as coach and Murray took over. In his two full seasons with the Panthers, they missed the playoffs once and lost in the first round.

Murray then worked as a scout for the Flyers before becoming an assistant coach in 2003.

Murray is not related to former Kings coach Andy Murray, but his brother, Bryan, was the coach and general manager for the Anaheim Ducks.

The 47-year-old Crawford was fired June 10 after two years on the job, coaching the Kings to a 59-84-21 record. He had one year left on his contract. Los Angeles had 71 points last season, tied with Tampa Bay for the fewest in the NHL.

The status of assistant coaches Mike Johnston, Dave Lewis, Jamie Kompon, Bill Ranford and Nelson Emerson is unknown. General manager Dean Lombardi is believed to have interviewed four candidates to succeed Crawford, including Johnston.

throughout high school, and through college, its a bit of therapy when i hear it. as many of you know i have had a lot of losses throughout my life, most recently my cousin Koko. to those experiencing some sort of difficulty with understanding or coping with any difficulties, i urge you to listen to this song because of its calm and mellow feel. It conjures up memories of the good times and bad, and leaves you wishing for more. it is a beautiful song which reminds me of many things. it can bring out a lot of emotion and take away a lot of stress. The Los Angeles Kings traded Defenseman Lubomir Visnovsky to the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for C Jarret Stoll and D Matt Greene. the trade was speculated to occur because of Visnovsky's inflated contract. He was set to make 5 Million dollars this year, with his no movement clause eventually kicking in June 30th. Though Visnovsky has been statistically one of the best defensemen in the post lockout NHL, the deal went down more for future cap room for players like Jack Johnson, Anze Kopitar, Patrick O'sullivan, and Jonathan Bernier... This also adds some youth in the kings lineup with Stoll, an emerging offensive power, and Greene, a shut down, stay at home defenseman...

Today Jaromir Jagr recieved a 35 million dollar offer to play with the russian team Avangard Omsk... the russian league is trying to compete with the NHL for big bucks, and Jagr, who has admitted that he would entertain the idea is a player who played for Omsk in 2005, the year of the lockout... The salary cap went up to 56 million dollars U.S. this is big news for teams who want to offer more lucrative terms to players. also introduced was a 40 million dollar price floor for all teams, meaning a minimum of 40 million must go to the player salary payroll... this can be potentially harmful for teams which are having financial problems...

Phoenix acquires tough guy Brian McGrattan from the Senators...
thats gonna add some bulk in a pacific division full of tough guys

The Canucks acquire Kyle Wellwood off of waivers from the leafs.
this is a good deal for Vancouver, because they get some much needed scoring, albeit streaky scoring, for half the price. Wellwood could deal with the pressure, because if you leave Toronto, you can deal with anything, but don't expect a Larry Murphy 1997 type performance...

Kelly Buchberger is Back in the NHL. . . as an assistant coach.
good pick up for Edmonton, because this guy is an excellent hockey guy, with a long NHL career that could actually acclimate Edmonton's young roster to the rigors of the NHL. Plus he can coach, and has played with a lot of great players.

good for him, hes a solid three or four defenseman.

The players can either accept the offers, or file for salary arbitration, where an independent arbitrator will mitigate the issue in favor of or against the players...

Kanko was supposed to step into the Sean Avery type "pest" role, but after fights with teammates and coaches alike, he quickly fell out of the kings favor. Danny Roussin was another player the kings had high hopes for... he played alongside "SID THE KID" in the Quebec league for the Rimouski Oceanic... Roussin however was not tendered an offer making him a free agent. during last years camp, he and Trevor Lewis had some great chemistry, but the fact that Roussin could not round out his game hurt him dearly... maybe Pittsburgh can sign him and he could be Charlie Simmer to Sid's Marcel Dionne.
